The Summer 612 showcase event was held on September 22 at the Minneapolis Central Library – with over 200 people in attendance! View the photos from this wonderful event! Summer 612 is a new campaign within the City of Minneapolis’ Blueprint for Action – a public health approach to youth violence prevention. Summer 612 was a micro-grant program addressing the Blueprint for Action goal # 4: recognize that violence is learned and can be unlearned by reducing the impact of violent messages in our media, culture and entertainment.
The Legal Rights Center has released an interim evaluation report of its program to restore students who have been recommended for expulsion at a Minneapolis Public School. Using restorative practices, MPS has designed a project (with the Legal Rights Center's active assistance) that maintains graduation pathways for youth who in the past would have been on the opposite end of the balance of risk and protective factors and thus far less likely to have a positive school outcome.

Blueprint for Action:
Preventing Youth Violence in Minneapolis
The City of Minneapolis recognizes that youth violence is a public health epidemic that requires a holistic, multi-faceted response. Drawing on a mix of increased law enforcement and public health strategies to address the root causes of violence and significantly reduce and prevent youth violence in Minneapolis, the city, in partnership with a host of community stakeholders, created the Blueprint for Action. Goals identified in the Blueprint:
- Connect every youth with a trusted adult,
- Intervene at the first sign that youth are at risk for violence,
- Restore youth who have gone down the wrong path, and
- Unlearn the culture of violence in our community.
