Youth Violence Prevention in Minneapolis
On all three levels of prevention, the Minneapolis Health Department (MHD) works with its partners—police, schools, parks, county services, community organizations, youth, and more—toward a common goal of reducing violence among young people in Minneapolis.
New initiatives include: replicating the evidence-based Group Violence Intervention strategy; Next Step, a hospital-based youth violence intervention program; and a CDC-funded project addressing shared risk and protective factors between teen dating violence and youth-violence. Policy work, including supporting sensible gun laws, is also an important component of MHD’s efforts.
