Tanning facilities are businesses that provide a room or booths which house ultraviolet lamps or products containing such lamps intended for the radiation of any part of the living human body for cosmetic or nonmedical related purposes.
In Minneapolis, tanning facilities are required to be licensed. Prior to the operation of any tanning facility used by the public for a fee or other compensation, the owner or operator is required to file an application with Minneapolis Business Licensing for a license to operate such a facility.
Tanning facilities are inspected yearly under the Minneapolis Ordinance Chapter 232: Suntanning Facilities.
Any concerns of unsanitary appearance or other conditions in the operation of the tanning facility which may constitute a substantial hazard to the public health can be reported online to the Minneapolis Health Department.
