Fire Prevention Week 2016 theme announced
NFPA has officially announced “Don't Wait: Check the Date! Replace Smoke Alarms Every 10 Years” as the theme for Fire Prevention Week, October 9-15, 2016. The focus on smoke alarm replacement comes as the result of a recent survey conducted by NFPA, which showed that many people don't know how old their smoke alarms are or how often they need to be replaced.
Minneapolis Fire adds the ability to treat overdose patients
The Fire Department added Narcan to its complement of medical services provided in Minneapolis. The drug can reverse an overdose from heroin and other opioid-based drugs and medications. In the first week, the Fire Department’s medical response teams saved seven lives with it. The Fire Department administers a vaporized version of the treatment nasally. The cost of the drug treatments and a portion of the training costs are being reimbursed by the Minnesota Metropolitan Emergency Services Board.
