Holiday Safety Topics
The winter holiday season should be a joyous time of year. However, certain types of fires and injuries associated with holiday cooking and decorations are much more common during this season.
In 2013, Thanksgiving was the peak day for home cooking fires, followed by Christmas eve and Christmas day. Cooking fires are the number one cause of home fires and home injuries. The leading cause of fires in the kitchen is unattended cooking. It’s important to be alert to prevent cooking and other Holiday fires.
Christmas Tree Fires
Christmas Trees are a traditional part of the Christmas holiday. They can also be a major source of fuel in a fire. According to the U.S. Fire Administration, one of every three home Christmas tree fires are caused by electrical problems and a heat source too close to the tree caused roughly one in every six.
