Winter 2007-2008 Update
No matter the season, walking is a viable and important mode of transportation in Minneapolis. Below are some updates and reminders for the winter months:

- The Loring Greenway has reopened! In October, the renovation of the Loring Greenway was completed. The pedestrian thoroughfare provides a scenic and quiet shortcut between Loring Park and Nicollet Mall at 13 th Street.
- The Pedestrian Master Plan is underway. Early in December, the consultant team undertaking the City’s Pedestrian Master Plan held a kickoff meeting with the Minneapolis Pedestrian Advisory Committee. A meeting to gather input from the general public is in the works, and will be occurring early in 2008. The plan will be completed by the end of 2008.
- The Pedestrian Advisory Committee (PAC) completes its 2007 schedule. The Minneapolis PAC has been hard at work since its inaugural March 2007 meeting. Check out what the group has been up to, on the PAC website. Meetings are open to the general public, and take place on the first Thursday of each month at City Hall.
- Sidewalk clearing is in full swing. With recent snowfalls, property owners have been hard at work clearing the City’s sidewalk network. Minneapolis city ordinance requires that sidewalks be cleared within 24 hours by homeowners (including duplex owners), and within 4 daytime hours by apartment and commercial building owners. If your neighbor’s sidewalk is unclear of snow and ice, help them out or call 311. Your contribution keeps our city’s sidewalks usable and safe!
