Project Updates: Decorative inlay median is now complete as well as the concrete islands at the intersections. Painting crews will be applying the parking lanes and crosswalks within a couple weeks. Also, the merging centerlines on the two adjacent blocks will be applied at that time. An initial speed study was taken this week and we should have the results shortly.
Project Type: Funded through the city's Safe Routes to School funding, this pilot project will introduce and evaluate a new median type as a traffic calming measure in front of Bancroft Elementary School. See the proposed project layout at the link below:
The project is located in south Minneapolis on 38th Street from 12th Ave S to 15th Ave S.
Construction Start Date: Construction will begin mid-July 2012 with the construction of the concrete medians. After the resurfacing of 38th street which is schedule for later that month, the Duratherm median will be laid and the crosswalks will be replaced. (this Safe Routes median project is separate from the repaving of 38th street; nearby residents have been assessed for the funding of the repaving project only, the Safe Routes median project is paid for solely from the city's Safe Routes funding.
