A rainbow across the river helps celebrate Twin Cities Pride
The Interstate 35W Bridge over the Mississippi River in Minneapolis will glow with rainbow colors Friday, June 24, in recognition of Twin Cities Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Pride in Minneapolis. The Minnesota Department of Transportation is providing the special lighting, which was requested by the non-profit organization Twin Cities Pride, with the support of the City of Minneapolis.
The 570 light fixtures on the bridge will wash the structure in rainbow colors, and another 48 light fixtures will make the bridge piers glow purple. The special lighting will be switched on at 9:20 p.m. and will last through Friday night. Although there are many places the public can get a view of the bridge, two good locations for viewing are the Stone Arch Bridge and along West River Parkway, which crosses under the bridge.
