Parking Restrictions added to two Snow Emergency routes

Beginning Monday, Jan. 10, parking is restricted on two additional Snow Emergency routes in Minneapolis to accommodate public safety vehicles and buses. Public Works will install No Parking signs on the EVEN numbered side of Irving Avenue South, from 28th Street to Lagoon Avenue, and 31st to 36th Streets. No Parking signs will also be installed on the ODD numbered side Dupont Avenue South from Franklin Avenue to 22nd Street. These restrictions will be in place until April 1, or until further notice. Vehicles that park in violation of the signs may be ticketed and towed.

Parking restrictions on four other Snow Emergency routes remain in effect Bryant Avenue South from Lake Street to 50th Streets; Grand Avenue South from Lake Street to 48th Street; Dupont Avenue South from 28th Street to 36th Street; and Emerson Avenue South from 28th Street to 36th Street. Please follow the posted signs.

These restrictions are in addition to the Winter Parking Restrictions, which were put into effect Friday, Dec. 17 in Minneapolis. These restrictions ensure reliable access for emergency vehicles after a record December snowfall. Winter Parking Restrictions will be in place until April 1, unless conditions allow the City to lift the ban earlier. Parking is allowed on both sides of Snow Emergency routes and parkways, and the ODD side of non-Snow Emergency routes, unless otherwise posted and provided a Snow Emergency has NOT been declared. Drivers parking in Minneapolis must follow these Winter Parking Restrictions, or they could be ticketed and towed.

REMINDER: Drivers should also be mindful of parking too close to intersections that block pedestrian crosswalks and keep intersection corners clear for safety. The citywide no parking restrictions are 20 feet from the intersecting sidewalk and 30 feet from a stop sign. See more information on the citywide parking restrictions.

The City of Minneapolis has also produced the following videos in Hmong that show how to follow the Winter Parking Restrictions rules. These videos are airing on our city cable channels, on Facebook and YouTube and have proven to be an effective way to get the word out to non-English speakers. For example, the Somali version of the "how to follow the rules" video has already received more than 1,200 views on YouTube.

Spreading the word about Snow Emergencies and Winter Parking Restrictions

The City of Minneapolis uses a number of ways to help folks learn about and follow the Snow Emergency (when declared) and Winter Parking Restrictions parking rules. We advise drivers to put several of these tools to use, not just one or two. The more ways they have to learn about a Snow Emergency, the less likely they’ll be towed because they didn’t know one was declared.
