Plan ahead as road closures will affect busy Downtown events July 16 and 18
The evening of Friday, July 16 and the afternoon of Sunday, July 18 will be busy in downtown Minneapolis, as concurrent events take place at Target Center and Target Field, along with a major Aquatennial event. Because people will be arriving at more than one event Downtown during the same time period, it’s important that folks plan ahead and explore their transportation options. The Minnesota Department of Transportation is also planning some freeway closures that will affect traffic in the Downtown area, although many highway entrances and exits will remain open into and out of Downtown.
Events on Friday, July 16:
- Aquatennial Block Party – 5-11 p.m. – The block party will be on Nicollet Mall between 3rd and 4th streets.
- Twins game vs. the Chicago White Sox – 7:10 p.m. – Gates open at 5 p.m.
Events on Sunday, July 18:
- Twins game vs. the Chicago White Sox – 1:10 p.m. – Gates open at 11 a.m.
- Lilith: The Celebration of Women in Music at Target Center – 4 p.m. – Doors open at 2 p.m.
The City of Minneapolis, Target Center, the Minnesota Twins, MnDOT, and other partners are working together to manage traffic and to spread the word to folks who are coming Downtown on these days so they can plan ahead.
Be aware of road closures
The Minnesota Department of Transportation will close sections of Interstate 35W and Interstate 94 in Downtown this weekend so work can be done on the Chicago Avenue Bridge over the freeways. However, both freeways will still provide access to and from Downtown, and most entrances and exits in Downtown will remain open. For up-to-date information on road closures and traffic conditions, visit MnDOT’s website.
Getting where you’re going
