Update on July 3 fire in southeast Minneapolis

Captain Dennis Mack (a 19 year veteran) and Firefighter Jacob LaFerriere (a 9 year veteran) remain in the Burn Unit at HCMC from second and third degree burns. Both are in satisfactory condition. The Minneapolis Fire Department wants to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers as our colleagues continue their recovery. Folks can show their support for Captain Mack and Firefighter LaFerriere by sending cards and letters to the Fire Department offices where they will be given to Captain Mack and Firefighter LaFerriere.

On July 3 there was a two-alarm fire at 1082 17th Ave. SE. While crews were fighting the fire on the second and third floors, there was a sudden rapid burst of flames that flashed over and engulfed the third floor and partially engulfed the second floor. Captain Mack and Firefighter LaFerriere were injured in the flashover and were quickly transported to HCMC for treatment.
