I-35W closure, light-rail changes may affect traffic coming in and out of Downtown

Travelers in the metro area should remember to plan ahead for their weekend travel, because of an Interstate 35W closure and a change to light rail service. Beginning at 10 p.m. Friday, June 25, I-35W will close between I-94 and Highway 280. The closure will allow crews to begin rehab work on the 5th Street exit ramp from I-94 into Downtown, which spans I-35W. For more details, visit the Minnesota Department of Transportation website .

Light rail service through Minneapolis will also be affected this weekend. Buses will replace trains on the segment of the line between Target Field Station and Fort Snelling Station beginning at 10:30 p.m. Friday. This change is also needed to accommodate work to the 5th Street exit ramp from I-94 into Downtown, and to allow other maintenance work to be done along the light rail line. Buses will mirror the light rail schedule during the shutdown, and Metro Transit staff will be at key locations to direct customers to their buses. In downtown Minneapolis, replacement bus service will operate on 4th Street. For more information, visit the Metro Transit website .
