Minneapolis helps MayDay festival toss the water bottle

This Sunday's MayDay Festival atPowderhornParkis going even greener. Thirsty visitors will be able to fill up with Minneapolis tap water at a number of fountains set up throughout the park as an alternative to buying bottles of water.

In the Heart of the Beast Puppet and Mask Theatre, which organizes and creates the annual MayDay Parade and Festival, has long valued water as an important public resource. The staff is asking food vendors to refrain from selling beverages in plastic bottles to reduce waste. Instead, thanks to a partnership with the City of Minneapolis, temporary drinking fountains will be located around Powderhorn Lake on May 2 to allow folks to grab a quick drink or fill their own reusable water bottles.

The City ofMinneapolistakes pride in its drinking water. Minneapolis tap water is safe, great tasting and economical. It’s among the best tap water in the nation, and has even come out on top in blind taste tests against bottled water.
