New, improved Downtown bus service begins Dec. 14

On Dec. 14, weekday express buses will begin running on the new transit lanes on Marquette and 2nd avenues, which have been completely reconstructed. The new double transit lanes will dramatically increase the number of buses that will be able to use Marquette and 2nd avenues, and will significantly decrease the time it takes buses to get through Downtown.

To help bus riders learn about the changes, each bus stop affected by the change will be staffed during the evening rush hours on Monday, Dec. 14 and Tuesday, Dec. 15. Customer outreach will be conducted by staff from Metro Transit, SouthWest Transit, MVTA, BlueXpress and the downtown Minneapolis Transit Management Organization.

Early next year, more bus routes will be moved off Nicollet Mall and onto the new MARQ2 transit lanes. Information on this new bus commuting process is available at

The all-new Marquette and 2nd avenues feature new double transit lanes, wider sidewalks and an improved streetscape. The new streetscape features nearly 200 new trees, bus shelters, and other amenities for pedestrians and bus riders, including signs with real-time transit information.
