Plan for traffic during TCF Bank Stadium’s first big event
People in the University of Minnesota area on Saturday, Aug. 22 should expect to see heavier than normal traffic due to the first public event held at the new TCF Bank Stadium. The stadium, at University Avenue and Oak Street SE, will host a Gopher Game Day Preview, beginning at 1 p.m. and lasting until early evening. Before and after the event, drivers in the Stadium Village and University area should plan for more traffic and pedestrians than are normally in the area on a Saturday.
In addition, to allow for better traffic flow in the area, there will be no parking along several streets near the stadium. Those streets include:
Washington Avenue from Harvard Street to Huron Boulevard
- 5th Street from 17th Avenue to Oak Street
- 25th Avenue from 4th Street to University Avenue
- Essex Street from Erie Street to Huron Boulevard
- Fulton Street from Oak Street to Huron Boulevard
People headed to the Gopher Game Day Preview and anyone heading into the neighborhood are encouraged to take transit, walk, or bike, or if you need to drive, try carpooling if possible. Because it will be a busy time in the neighborhood, please plan extra time for your trip and keep an eye out for pedestrians, bicycles, and cars to make sure everyone has a safe weekend.
