311 is open special Saturday hours to help answer storm damage questions

Minneapolis 311 will be open special hours Saturday, Aug. 22 to take calls from residents dealing with damage from the tornado and severe storms that hit south Minneapolis Aug. 19. Agents will be taking calls from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday. Many residents are expected to be out Saturday starting or continuing work to clean up debris and make repairs to their yards and homes. The extra 311 hours will make sure they have a way to get their questions answered.

Public Works and Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board crews began picking up tree debris that residents have placed in the boulevards Aug. 212. They will not do pickups over the weekend, but will continue that work starting Monday, through Aug. 26.

Since the storms hit, 311 has been the one number residents need to know to get information on cleaning up debris and reporting things like broken traffic signals and street lights. Many people have been calling to ask about plans for tree debris pickup, what they should do with tree debris near alleys, what to do with other materials they need to dispose of, and checking to make sure their tree service contractor is properly licensed.
