Enjoy the "Best Days of Summer" by taking in some of the many family-friendly events during the 2009 Minneapolis Aquatennial celebration, which runs July 17-25. Now in its 70th year, the Minneapolis Aquatennial draws people from across the region and beyond to celebrate summer and all the city has to offer.
Events include food, drinks and music at the Labor Neighborhood Block Party on Nicollet Mall; water ski shows along the Mississippi River; the Aquatennial Milk Carton Boat Race, Land O’Lakes Sandcastle Competition and the Memorial Blood Bank Drive Beach Bash at Lake Calhoun; the Queen of Lakes Coronation; the LifeTime Fitness Torchlight 5K; and the CenterPoint Energy Torchlight Parade along Hennepin Avenue in downtown Minneapolis, among a host of other fun activities. The Target Fireworks Show along the banks of the Mississippi River downtown on Saturday, July 25 will provide a spectacular grand finale for 2009 Minneapolis Aquatennial.
Visitors to Aquatennial events should expect crowds and plan extra time to get to your destination. Taking transit, carpooling, or walking or biking to events is a great idea if possible.
The annual event is produced by the Minneapolis Downtown Council and supported by a host of local and national business sponsors.
