CPED staff member recognized for volunteer service
Paula Mazzacano, Community Planning and Economic Development Department (CPED), has been chosen for a 2011 University of Minnesota Alumni Service Award. The award recognizes service as a volunteer to the University, the U of M Alumni Association or any of its constituent groups.
For the past 29 years, Mazzacano has worked for the City in development finance. Currently, she administers grants made to the City by other governmental units, many of them to remediate polluted property. Mazzacano has been a member of the Humphrey School Alumni Board and many of its committees for several years. Mazzacano also serves as a mentor to students interested in city government, environmental cleanup and housing development.
Her community involvement includes serving on the Robbinsdale Charter Commission, Robbinsdale Comprehensive Plan Citizens’ Task Force and the Robbinsdale Parks and Recreation Board. In addition, she volunteers for Loaves and Fishes and Open Arms Minnesota. She is a also strong advocate for the International Baccalaureate and performing arts program in her school district.
Mazzacano and other Alumni Service Award recipients will be honored at a reception on Oct. 20.
