My Health Rewards
Frequently Asked Questions
Eligible employees who complete Medica’s My Health Rewards program by Aug. 31, 2011 will pay less for their 2012 health insurance premiums than employees who do not complete the program. Here are answers to the most commonly asked questions about the program:
Q. What exactly does an employee need to do to be eligible for the lower health care premium in 2012?
A. Employees must complete the following actions between Jan. 1 and Aug. 31, 2011:
- The health assessment.
- Eight health topics and goals. (Note: You write your own goal after reading each health topic. There is no requirement that you complete your goal and no one will be following up on your goal achievement.)
- Two telephone calls with a Medica health coach. (This requirement applies only to people that Medica invites to participate in health coaching. If you aren’t contacted by Medica about health coaching, you need only complete the health assessment and the eight health topics to qualify for the lower premiums in 2012.)
Q. Are there gift cards for participating?
A. Yes. Medica will provide gift cards when you complete the health assessment ($20), health topics ($40) and health coaching ($75) by Dec. 31. You can earn the gift card for health coaching even if you haven’t been invited to participate by Medica. To request a health coach, call 1-866-905-7430.
Q. Does the employee have to complete the health action requirements or can a family member complete them instead of the employee?
A. To receive the premium incentive, the employee must complete the health actions. Family members can’t do it in your place. However, all adult dependents on the employee’s health plan are welcome to participate in each activity and earn their own gift cards from Medica.
Q. What is a health topic?
A. A health topic is a short information module with about 5 - 10 pages of text and graphics. At the end of each topic, you will be asked to set a goal related to that topic. When finished, click the "save" button. Each health topic has a status: "begin," "in progress" or "completed." Once you have eight topics completed, check marks (across all categories) will indicate that you have completed the requirement.
The health topics are organized by categories, such as Food and Nutrition or Being Active, and each category has several health topics within it. You do not need to complete an entire category, just any eight health topics from one or more of the categories. Although Medica will suggest health topics for you based on the answers you gave in the health assessment, you are free to complete any eight of the 200 topics that interest you.
Q. How do I know if I have been invited to health coaching?
A. A health coach from Medica will contact you by telephone and mail. If you have received a phone call or a letter inviting you to Health Coaching, you must complete two conversations by Aug. 31 to be eligible for the lower premium in 2012. You can call health coaching at 1-866-905-7430 and they can tell you if you have been invited. If you are not invited, but wish to participate to earn a $75 gift card from Medica, you may do so by calling the same number.
