Don’t hang up on 911

Minneapolis 911 received 20,829 hang-up calls in 2013. That’s more calls than a full-time 911 dispatcher answers in a year, which is approximately 20,000 calls.

Minneapolis 911 policies require 911 dispatchers to call back callers who hang up in case they need help. That takes up hours of staff time each day and ties up valuable phone lines that should be used for answering emergency calls. Remember: Stay on the line if you accidentally dial 911.
