Celebrate Public Health Week with free yoga and more

Next week is national Public Health Week, and the Health Department has planned several events.

Yoga and mindfulness hour
12:15-1:15 p.m., Tuesday, April 8
Room 132, City Hall

Relax and restore during your busy workday with an hour of gentle yoga that focuses on stretching, breathing and mindful awareness of the body. The event is aimed at stress reduction at work for happiness and health. No previous yoga experience is necessary, and all are welcome. Please bring your own mat. A limited number of mats will be available to borrow.

Panel presentation on youth violence prevention
6-7:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 8
North Regional Library,
1315 Lowry Ave. N.

This community event will feature a presentation on a study about adverse childhood experiences and information about historical trauma. A panel after the presentation will include representatives of the Family Partnership, the Youth Coordinating Board Health Committee and the Juvenile Justice Division at The Link. Refreshments will be served. The public is also invited to attend.

Local Public Health Hero Awards ceremony and Health Department resource fair
11 a.m.–1 p.m., Thursday, April 10
City Hall Rotunda

The Local Public Health Hero Awards will honor and recognize the accomplishments of community partners whose service to public health activities transforms and strengthens the lives of our residents and visitors. During the resource fair, City employees can complete a biometric screening and learn about the Health Department’s work as well as the public health work of community partners. Refreshments will be provided.
