Urban Scholars recognition event is Aug. 8

The second group of Urban Scholars will wrap up their summer internship and leadership program at a special recognition event set for Thursday, Aug. 8 from 2 – 4 p.m. in the City Hall Rotunda.

All City employees are invited to attend the celebration and help recognize the college students for their outstanding contributions to the City of Minneapolis over the summer. Keynote messages will be given by Mayor R. T. Rybak and Urban Scholar Kendra Parker. Proclamations will be presented to the Urban Scholars by City Council President Johnson and Mayor Rybak.

Urban Scholars is a 12-week internship and leadership development program designed to provide professional networking opportunities and leadership development skills to talented college students from diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds. The program seeks to develop the next generation of City leaders.

The college students who participated in this summer’s program are all Minneapolis residents attending colleges across the country. In addition to working on projects in various City departments, the students participated in roundtable discussions with Mayor Rybak, networked with elected officials and City leaders, attended Results Minneapolis progress conferences, participated in sessions on banking and financial literacy, and attended presentations on professional development, dressing professionally and business etiquette.
