Runnin’ with the Law 5K race and Kids Fun Run is Aug. 15

On Aug. 15, the Minneapolis Police Department and its partners will host its fourth annual Runnin’ with the Law 5K Run/Walk and Kids Fun Run at Father Hennepin Park. Proceeds from the events will benefit the Minneapolis Police Department’s Fitness Team, a group dedicated to establishing an active, healthy culture within the Police Department and the community.

The post-race celebration includes award presentations, police exhibits and live music. Team challenge awards for the fastest combined team time, largest team and most creative team name will be presented after the race. At the finish line, race participants will receive a pint glass and one complementary beer or soda provided by Rock Bottom Brewery.

To encourage City employees to participate, the City’s Wellness Committee sponsored an 8 Weeks to 5K preparation program. Thirty employees registered for the free program which began June 17. The running preparation and injury prevention program was created just for City of Minneapolis employees by Activ8, a team of exercise physiologists.

Employees are invited to cheer on their colleagues or join in the race. Preregistration is open until Tuesday, Aug. 13. (The preregistration fee for the 5K is $25. The preregistration fee for the Kids Fun Run is $5.) To register online, visit

If there are extras, race participants may be able to pick up a T-shirt at the race without advance reservation. (Be sure to bring proof of City employment.)

Race day registration is $30 for the 5K and $10 for the Kids Fun Run.
