Voting open for Convention Center Plaza art competition
Would you like to have a say about the art that will be installed on the Convention Center Plaza? If so, you have until Jan. 7 to cast your vote in an art competition seeking to transform the Minneapolis Convention Center Plaza. There are 16 entries, ranging from architectural “follies” to a giant plaza xylophone.
The top five vote-getters will be asked to develop a full-blown proposal for the project, which will be juried on Feb. 27, 2013, at a public presentation at the University of Minnesota. The winning entry will be selected and installed on the Minneapolis Convention Center Plaza beginning June 7, 2013, for the duration of the summer. Additional information is online at http://www.minneapolis.org/art-in-the-plaza/about.
Voting is open to all, but voters must be on Facebook and "like" the Minneapolis Convention Center page to be able to vote. The voting window is open until Jan. 7, 2013, at https://www.facebook.com/MinneapolisConventionCenter/app_177914495580579.
The "Creative City Challenge" sought proposals last month from Minnesota-resident architects, landscape architects, urban designers, planners, engineers, scientists, artists, students and individuals of all backgrounds to create and install a temporary, interactive, site-specific, eco-focused portal to the City of Minneapolis on the Minneapolis Convention Center Plaza next summer. The Plaza is a green roof that is located directly across from the Minneapolis Convention Center on Second Ave. S. The installation will be unveiled in the summer of 2013 by the Minneapolis Convention Center, Meet Minneapolis, Convention & Visitors Association and the City of Minneapolis.
