Information detailing the transition from Optum to WageWorks mailed to your home
Beginning Jan. 1, 2013, employees’ Minneflex flexible spending accounts, HRA/ VEBA and the pre-tax transportation benefit will be supported by WageWorks.
To ensure a smooth transition, employees will receive several mailings in December from WageWorks detailing the transition from Optum, the City’s former claims administrator. This week, employees were mailed a flier detailing WageWorks’ services, transition schedule, and next steps in claims submission process.
In mid-December, more information, including Quick Start Guides and debit cards, will be mailed to employees’ homes. (Your WageWorks debit card can be used instead of cash or credit at health care providers and pharmacies for eligible services, goods and prescriptions.)
Please note: All claims received before Dec. 14, 2012 will be processed by Optum. Claims received after Dec. 14 will be processed by WageWorks. Be sure to review the flier for additional key dates in the transition.
About Flex and HRA/VEBA accounts
Minneflex Flexible Spending Accounts are optional accounts employees set up during open enrollment that allows employees to set aside money, before taxes, to use for eligible health care expenses. Health Care Flexible Spending Accounts are “use it or lose-it” accounts. Any money that is not used by the annual deadline is forfeited.
HRA/VEBA Accounts (Health Reimbursement Arrangement/Voluntary Employee Beneficiary Association) are not “use it or lose-it” accounts. Funds in your HRA/VEBA account can be carried over from one year to the next. Funds in this account come from deposits the City of Minneapolis makes to help you cover out-of-pocket health care expenses.
