Employees still needed to help with Aug. 14 primary election 

Each election season, the City Clerk’s office invites City employees to serve as election judges. Election judges open and close the polls, register and sign in voters, distribute and collect ballots, operate voting equipment, and record and certify vote totals.

To be an election judge, you must be:

·         Eligible to vote.

·         Willing to attend a two-hour training class that will be held in City Hall.

·         Able to work either a full day (6 a.m. – 9 p.m.) or a part-time shift (6 a.m. – 2 p.m. or 2 p.m. – 9 p.m.) on Tuesday, Aug. 14 and/or Tuesday, Nov. 6.

Employees who are fluent in American Sign Language, Spanish, Somali, Hmong, Vietnamese, Oromo, Laotian or Russian are especially needed.

How to apply

Although the 20 day deadline to give notice to your supervisor about serving as an election judge for the Primary has passed, please check with your supervisor to determine if it will be possible for you to serve as an election judge on August 14.

Compensation options

City employees who wish to serve as election judges within Minneapolis, have two options for being paid for their election judge service:

  1. Serve an eight hour shift as an election judge and receive your regular City pay for those eight hours.
  2. Serve as an election judge for more than eight hours and receive your regular City pay for your normal eight hours and then receive hourly election judge pay for the hours that exceed your normal eight hours. Minneapolis election judges pay is $8.75 per hour. (Please note: There is no option for receiving overtime pay.)
