Minneapolis becomes the Land of 10,000 ‘likes’

The City of Minneapolis Facebook page is the land of 10,000 ‘likes’ after the page received its 10,000th like April 23.

Launched in May 2009, the City of Minneapolis uses Facebook to engage with the people of Minneapolis and update folks on City news and information. The City also uses the page to answer questions about City services. The page is updated with content on a daily basis and was an important tool in communicating about the City’s response following the May 22, 2011 tornado in north Minneapolis.

Minneapolis’ Facebook page is part of its overarching social media strategy designed to provide new channels for promoting transparency in government and City services, news and information. Collectively, the City of Minneapolis has more than 55,000 fans and followers on Facebook and Twitter between its City government site, Snow Emergency site and Minneapolis Police Department’s presence.
