City hosting open house to provide update on 8th Street Reconstruction Project

The City’s Public Works Department is hosting an open house Feb. 11 at the IDS Center to provide an update on the 8th Street Reconstruction Project. Utility work is underway and heavy roadway reconstruction is scheduled to start in April 2019.

Eighth Street between Hennepin and Chicago avenues will be reconstructed from building front to building front, which includes the removal and replacement of pavement, curbs, sidewalks, public and private utilities and other infrastructure. Once complete, the reconstructed 8th will have widened sidewalks, enhanced transit service/amenities, improved crosswalks, streetscape/landscaping improvements and updated utilities. Construction is expected to take two years.

Project staff will provide updates on utility work, construction schedule, detours and present illustrations showing 8th Street improvement plans at the open house. For more information, visit the project website: or contact Adam Hayow, project manager for the City of Minneapolis at 612-673-2172 or [email protected]
