Open house discusses project to close gap in Hiawatha Trail
On Monday, July 17, there will be a public meeting to discuss next year’s project to close the gap in the Hiawatha Trail, which will complete this bike route connecting downtown Minneapolis with the Minnehaha Regional Park.
Public open house on Hiawatha Trail Gap Project
6-8 p.m. Monday, July 17
Longfellow Park, 3435 36th Ave. S.
Hiawatha Avenue was reconstructed in 1999 with a 12-foot wide concrete trail on the west side of the street. In 2004, the light-rail construction project significantly reduced the width of this trail to a standard sidewalk width between 28th Street and 32nd Street, creating a gap in the bikeway. This project would add a bike trail on the east side of Hiawatha Avenue, restoring the bicycling connection that once existed and provide a safe place for pedestrians.
