City Council committees holding hearing on Section 8 anti-discrimination ordinance


WHAT:            The City Council’s Community Development & Regulatory Services and Public Safety, Civil Rights & Emergency Management committees will be holding a joint meeting and a public hearing to consider a proposed ordinance prohibiting discrimination against Section 8 voucher holders.

WHEN:            10:15 a.m. Wednesday, March 22

WHERE:           City Council Chamber, Room 317, City Hall, 350 S. Fifth St.

MORE:             The proposed ordinance, sponsored by City Council Vice President Elizabeth Glidden, Council Member Abdi Warsame and Council Member Lisa Goodman, prohibits landlords from discriminating against Section 8 voucher holders. There are 58 jurisdictions across the country with similar ordinances. The Minneapolis Public Housing Authority will also discuss its responses to recent recommendations on enhancing its inspections program and increasing mobility for families who use Housing Choice Vouchers in Minneapolis.
