Open houses will seek input on 8th Street Reconstruction Project
The City of Minneapolis is hosting two open houses Thursday, Jan. 12 at the Crystal Court in the IDS Center, 80 S. 8th St., to discuss the 8th Street Reconstruction Project. Construction is expected to start in 2019 on the street between Hennepin and Chicago avenues.
The City’s Public Works Department will hold the open houses 11 a.m.-1 p.m. and 4-6 p.m.
8th Street will be reconstructed from building front to building front, including the removal and replacement of pavement, curb, sidewalk, driveway entrances, traffic signals, street lighting, stormwater drainage systems and other utilities. The reconstructed 8th Street will have widened sidewalks, enhanced transit service/amenities, improved crosswalks, and streetscape/landscaping improvements such as street trees.
Area residents, employees, businesses, property managers and building owners are invited to visit the open houses to hear more information about the project and provide feedback. Project staff will present information on the preliminary roadway design and streetscape concepts, and will be available to answer questions and to discuss ideas.
The presentation material will be available for review and comment on the project website after the open house. For more information about the project, visit the project website or contact Steven Hay, project manager for the City of Minneapolis at 612-673-3884 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
