City Hall bells to ring for Sandy Hook Elementary School victims

The tower bells of Minneapolis City Hall will ring 26 times at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, December 21, one week to the minute after the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School began in Newtown, Conn. The largest bell in the chime will toll once in memory of each of the 26 victims. This is part of a nationally coordinated tolling happening at the request of Connecticut Governor Dan Malloy.

One of the volunteer bell players of the Tower Bell Foundation will toll the bell from a console in the 4th Street rotunda of City Hall. The bell weighs 7,247 pounds and can be heard throughout downtown Minneapolis.
