Nine park buildings open to help keep folks cool on July 4

This Independence Day could bring temperatures in the triple digits, so it's important people celebrate while playing it safe and staying cool. See tips on beating the heat. For people who need somewhere to go and stay cool during the day, the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board will have nine of its air-conditioned recreation centers in city parks open to the public on the holiday.

The air-condition centers open on the 4th include East Phillips, Farview, Kenwood, Longfellow, Lynnhurst, Phillips, Powderhorn, Windom NE, and Webber.

The heat is expected to stick around through the rest of the week, and many other air-conditioned public buildings are open on the days after the holiday. For a list of buildings visit the Minneapolis Department of Health and Family Support website. Visit the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board website for more information on air-conditioned recreation centers throughout the city.
