Tickets available starting Monday, January 14
January 10, 2013 (MINNEAPOLIS) — Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak and Minnesota Orchestra benefactor Judy Dayton announced today that Minnesota Orchestra Music Director Osmo Vänskä has accepted their invitation to conduct Orchestra musicians at a community celebration of the Orchestra’s nomination for a Grammy Award.
The musicians have also accepted their invitation.
Tickets to the community celebration will go on sale starting at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, January 14 at www.ticketworks.com or by calling (612) 343-3390. Tickets are available for $20, $40 and $60.
The celebration will take place in the auditorium of the Minneapolis Convention Center at 8:00 p.m. on Friday, February 1.
“Judy Dayton and I are very excited that this public celebration of the Orchestra’s great accomplishment will happen, and that Osmo Vänskä and the musicians will celebrate it with an undoubtedly stellar performance,” Mayor Rybak said.
“Now it’s time for this community to put its money where its mouth is. I’m getting my tickets on Monday, and I encourage everyone who loves Minneapolis music and arts to do the same — and to join me in buying a copy of the recording as well.”
The Minnesota Orchestra has been nominated for Best Orchestral Performance at the 55th Annual GRAMMY Awards for its recording of Jean Sibelius’ Symphonies Nos. 2 and 5, conducted by Osmo Vänskä and released by the Swedish label BIS Records. The winner in the category will be announced on February 10.
Copies of the Grammy-nominated recording are available for purchase on the Minnesota Orchestra website at www.minnesotaorchestra.org.
