What’s new at Business Licenses?

Licenses and Consumer Services is moving!
Our office will be closed on Monday and Tuesday,
April 21 - 22, so we can pack our belongings. 
On Wednesday, April 23rd we will open at 10 am

Public Hearing Scheduled for Non-Motorized Limited Mobile Food Vehicles
On April 29, 2014 the Community Development & Regulatory Services Committee will consider an ordinance amendment to Chapter 188 of the Minneapolis Code of Ordinances which allows non-motorized mobile food vendors to operate on public streets outside of the downtown area in Minneapolis.  The vendors may sell prepackaged, non-perishable confections such as ice cream, pop, candy, and/or potato chips. 

Public Hearing Scheduled for Transportation Network Companies (TNC)
On April 29, 2014 the Community Development & Regulatory Services Committee will consider amending Chapter 341 and adding a new Chapter 343 to the Minneapolis Code of Ordinances which will create regulations for Transportation Network Companies to operate under in Minneapolis.  TNCs provide for hire, small vehicle passenger transportation services that allow drivers to use their own personal vehicles to transport riders who have connected with them through a cell phone application.

Massage and Bodywork Establishments
Effective July 1, 2014, all Massage and Bodywork Establishments, including home-based and single operators, are required to have a Minneapolis business license.  Applications are available now.  If you have questions, contact Lead License Inspector Michele Harvet at or 612-673-5484.

Business Licenses Inspectors schedule meetings throughout the year to discuss issues with neighborhood groups and members of the business community.  A schedule of meeting dates is available for the Business Advisory Committee, LINC (Liquor Industry & the City) and Taxi Representatives
Business License Information Program (BLIP)

Brochures and videos for business owners, license applicants, and customers are available in our electronic library.  Topics include hailing a taxi, hiring a contractor, hosting a catered event, and more.  Information is also available in Español, Hmoob, and Soomaaliga. No library card required.
