Portland Place
Bounded by 26th and 28th Streets and Portland and Fifth Avenues
Portland Place is a new housing development covering the two square blocks bounded by 26th and 28th Streets and Portland and Fifth Avenues in the Phillips neighborhood of south Minneapolis. This development by PPL on Portland transformed substandard rental housing into owner-occupied single-family homes, twinhomes and townhomes. The project includes the renovation of 27th Street with added green space and landscaping, as well as the renovation of a Victorian home on the corner of Portland and 27th. PPL on Portlands partners in the development include Honeywell, Habitat for Humanity, the Green Institute, the MCDA and neighborhood organizations. Portland Place was named a winner of the 2002 Minneapolis Committee on Urban Environment (CUE) awards.
