Community Led Outreach Period
Three months ago, the community took the lead on gathering input on the future of the 427 Cedar Avenue site. While the agreed upon Community Outreach Period is over, some groups have expressed a need for more time to gather input. While staff would like to move forward with marketing the site, we continue to welcome input and urge you to send in any comments you have as soon as possible. All input received from the community will be presented to prospective developers, and as new information comes in, we will continue to add that information to comments packet online.
Comments Received as of November 11, 2009 (also note the input compiled from previous meetings below)
At the June 10th, 2009, Dania Hall Advisory Group Meeting (details below), attendees agreed to lead a community outreach effort that would gather ideas and input on the future of the Dania Hall site. Organizations in the community are now starting that process, with all comments due to Joe Bernard (contact information below) by November 1st, 2009 Community Outreach Packet, distributed to organizations in the neighborhood as reference material for the outreach process.
Dania Hall Site
The site of the former Dania Hall has been vacant since the building was destroyed by fire in early 2000. Since that time neighborhood residents have clamored for a project that brings the property at 427 Cedar Avenue South back to life. Over the past ten years there have been numerous meetings, called by a variety of groups, aimed at gauging the interests and desires of the community in regards to the site. Many of these ideas were incorporated into an official City of Minneapolis planning process that resulted in the creation and adoption of the Cedar Riverside Small Area Plan in April of 2008. During the planning process the City made a commitment to explore in more detail the options for repositioning the Dania Hall site.
This website is intended to serve as a conduit for sharing information on the progress of Dania Hall site improvements and public opinion on how the property should be used. Below are links to information about public meetings, and general information on the Dania Hall site. You are encouraged to submit comments or questions to Joe Bernard per the contact information below. If you would like to be added to an email list to keep up to date on meetings or website updates, send your request to email@example.com.
