Nursing Assistant Plus
Nursing assistants are essential members of today’s healthcare teams, performing hands-on resident/client care and routine tasks for individuals of various ages and health conditions. Minneapolis College’s program provides basic skills training, including the fundamentals of how to check and monitor vital signs and deal with a wide range of client needs focusing on a hospital setting. On top of this training, Students may have opportunity to receive Mental Health First Aid certification, a college medical terminology class, as well as BLS/CPR for healthcare providers.
An instrument tech, or a central services technician, plays an important role in patient care by preventing infections. In this Minneapolis College program, students learn how to sterilize medical instruments, learn basic surgical instrumentation and medical terminology as well as decontamination and sterilization processes. Once students complete the program, they can take the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution’s certification exam.
Medical Equipment Preparers
This 5-month program partnered with Minneapolis College can enhance your computer and professional skills to prepare for positions like Patient Assistant Coordinator. You’ll get hands-on experience at Abbott Northwestern Hospital, organizing and managing the details to support nurses providing patient care. A monetary award is given upon class completion. Must have one year of office experience; CNA or PCA work preferred, but not required.
Assist patients in obtaining services, understanding policies and making health care decisions.
This 6-week training program includes 4-weeks of employment readiness skills, computer and office training, and a 2-week job shadow in a healthcare setting. Included is an introduction to medical terminology and Basic Life Support Certification from the American Heart Association. This class requires at least one year of previous clerical work experience. A monetary award is given upon class completion.
Medical Call Center
The Medical Call Center program has been designed to give students the knowledge, skills, and attitudes required to work in medical call center or clinic front desk positions in a hospital setting. Students will build on customer service skills, computer literacy, healthcare systems healthcare system terminology, and communication skills that are useful for working with people calling or coming in to a hospital for services. Eligible students will have an opportunity to additionally receive Mental Health First Aid certification and register for Communications in Healthcare course.
Perform medical call center duties using specific knowledge of healthcare system terminology and laboratory procedures. Duties may include scheduling appointments, billing patients, and compiling and recording medical charts, reports, and correspondence.
