STEP-UP provided jobs for 1,800 youth in 2013, and has provided jobs for over 18,000 youth since 2004 through its three customizable program options: DISCOVER, EXPLORE, and ACHIEVE. The 2013 intern class was one of the most diverse groups of program participants to date with 92% youth of color, 17% born outside of the United States, and 15% youth with disabilities.
Foundational, entry-level jobs for youth with limited work experience designed to develop skills and explore interests in preparation for future positions with STEP-UP Achieve. Youth, ages 14-21, work in nonprofit organizations. Most STEP-UP Discover interns are ages 14 or 15. Career-oriented jobs for the most prepared STEP-UP interns who are seeking a professional experience and more challenging opportunities.
