Transgender Equity Council

Advise the City of Minneapolis and Park Board on matters of importance to transgender and gender-nonconforming residents; and provide a forum for issues of importance to the transgender community. Study issues, courses of action, policies, and programs that affect the quality of life for transgender residents and makes recommendations to the City and Park Board for improvements related to these issues. Serve as a liaison between the Minneapolis transgender community and the City and Park Board, and make every effort to ensure that the diverse viewpoints and interests of the transgender residents of Minneapolis are reflected in the course of work.

On February 10, 2017, the City Council approved Resolution 2017R-061 (PDF), establishing the Transgender Equity Council. The council will serve as an advisory board to the City and the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board on matters of importance to the transgender, gender-nonconforming, and non-binary community. The council’s work will include studying issues, courses of action, policies, and programs as well as making recommendations.

Deadline: The application review process will begin on October 18, 2019.

Selection Process

Applications are reviewed and selected by the Public Health, Environment, Civil Rights, and Engagement Committee for recommendation to the full City Council.

Notes

Meetings are typically held monthly on the second Thursday of the month from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.  The location of meetings varies. There is no compensation for attending meetings.  There is a residency requirement for community members. No appointment of a nonresident under the appointments process will be become effective unless a waiver of residency has been approved by a majority vote of the city council. The Board meeting locations are accessible to persons with disabilities.
