Public Housing Authority (MPHA) Vacancies

Minneapolis Public Housing Authority (MPHA) was created by ordinance 86-Or-034 on 2/28/1986. The Minneapolis Public Housing Authority in and for the City of Minneapolis (MPHA) is an independent Agency charged with the responsibility to manage federally subsidized housing for eligible low income families, elderly, and disabled tenants. MPHA owns and manages over 5,000 apartments in 42 high-rise properties and over 700 single family homes in virtually every Minneapolis neighborhood in addition to the nation’s first assisted living / memory care facility for low income tenants and a new Health & Wellness Center in Heritage Park. MPHA also operates the federally subsidized Housing Choice Voucher / Section 8 Program for over 5,000 eligible participants in the City of Minneapolis.

The MPHA Board of Commissioners is the governing body of the Agency. Its members are appointed by the Mayor and the City Council to oversee the operation of the Agency, establish operating policy for the Agency, and insure operating compliance with U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development regulations. Members of the Board must live or work in the City of Minneapolis. MPHA has a diverse board with varied backgrounds, including residents. We are currently seeking applicants who have highly developed skills and extensive experience in the area of finance, information & technology, business, and experience in subsidized housing programs and the development of subsidized housing or mixed income/mixed use properties.

Selection Process

Applications are forwarded from the City Clerk to the Board, Mayor, and City Council President Staff for their consideration. Applications are reviewed by the Community Development & Regulatory Services for recommendation to the full Council.

Note

The meeting schedule is adopted for the year at the first (annual) meeting of the year. Meetings normally taking place on the fourth Wednesday of every month (the third Wednesday in November and December) at 1:30 p.m. at 1001 Washington Avenue North, Minneapolis, Minnesota. The Board meeting location is accessible to persons with disabilities.

Each commissioner will receive payment for attending regular, special and committee meetings at the rate of $55 per meeting, not to exceed $5,000 per year. If salaried public officials or city employees are appointed, they shall serve without compensation.

The board is comprised of nine voting members serving three-year terms: Five Mayoral appointments, including the chairperson, and four Council appointments. One of the Mayor’s appointments must be a resident of public housing managed by the MPHA and classified as high-rise housing. One of the City Council’s appointments must be a resident of public housing managed by the MPHA and classified as family non-high-rise housing.
