Minneapolis Public Housing Authority Board of Commissioners

Minneapolis Public Housing Authority (MPHA) was created by ordinance 86-Or-034 on 2/28/1986 to provide safe, sanitary housing for low and moderate income people by management and operation of the City's low income public housing units and the City's Section 8 Rental Program. The Board of Commissioners is the Corporate Board of MPHA and as such sets policy and overall goals and objectives for the Authority. The Board may establish committees to deal with various policy matters; the Board also adopts its own bylaws. The MPHA contracts with the Dept of Housing & Urban Development relative to its Housing Programs and as such must comply with a variety of HUD regulations.

Seat 1: Mayoral appointment who must be a resident of Public Housing - High Rise with a term of 01/01/2013 - 12/31/2015. 
There is not an incumbent seeking re-appointment.

Seat 4: Mayoral citizen appointment with a term of 01/01/2013 - 12/31/2015. 
There may be an incumbent seeking re-appointment.

Seat 5: Mayoral citizen  appointment  with a term of 01/01/2013 - 12/31/2015. 
There may be an incumbent seeking re-appointment.

Seat 8: Council citizen appointment with a term of starting immediately  - 12/31/2014. 
There may be an incumbent seeking re-appointment.

Selection Process:

Applications are forwarded from the City Clerk to the Board, Mayor, and City Council President Staff for their consideration. Applications are reviewed by the Community Development Committee for recommendation to the full Council.

Note:

The meeting schedule is adopted for the year at the first (annual) meeting of the year. Meetings normally taking place on the fourth Wednesday of every month (the third Wednesday in November and December) at 1:30 p.m. at 1001 Washington Avenue North, Minneapolis, Minnesota. The Board meeting location is accessible to persons with disabilities.

Each commissioner will receive payment for attending regular, special and committee meetings at the rate of $55 per meeting, not to exceed $5,000 per year. If salaried public officials or city employees are appointed, they shall serve without compensation.

The board is comprised of nine voting members serving three-year terms: Five Mayoral appointments, including the chairperson, and four Council appointments. One of the Mayor’s appointments must be a resident of public housing managed by the MPHA and classified as highrise housing. One of the City Council’s appointments must be a resident of public housing managed by the MPHA and classified as family non-highrise housing.
