In 2018 Minneapolis Public Works plans to sealcoat Bloomington Ave S between Minnehaha Pkwy and 54th St E. This segment of Bloomington Ave S is identified in the Minneapolis Bicycle Master Plan and the sealcoat project provides a logical time to implement the planned bikeway.
A bikeway on Bloomington Ave S would connect to existing bike facilities on 54th St E and the Minnehaha Parkway trail. It would also indirectly serve bicyclists utilizing the new intercity trail, which runs from West Lake Nokomis Parkway into Richfield.
An updated project layout was presented to the Hale Page Diamond Lake Neighborhood Board on 11/27/17. The layout preserves parking on both sides of the street along the majority of the corridor. The bike facility is proposed to be "advisory lanes", similar to the existing lanes on 54th St E from Portland Ave S to West Lake Nokomis Parkway, near the south end of the Bloomington bikeway project limit.
The routine sealcoat project has been rescheduled to summer 2018. Continued engagement on the proposed bikeway striping project is currently taking place in the 4th quarter 2017. This engagement will include continued outreach with residents, businesses, and other stakeholders.
