11th Avenue South Protected Bikeway
Project Overview: To install curb protected bike lanes on 11th Ave from 6th St S to West River Parkway. Implement a bollard protected intersection at the crossing of 11th Ave and 2nd St S.
Project limits: 11th Avenue South, from 6th Street South to West River Parkway.
Project year: 2018
Start date: August, 2018
Public Works is evaluating the performance of two design treatments as a part of the 11th Ave S curb protected bicycle lanes. A temporary protected intersection using delineators was installed at 11th Ave S and 2nd St S.
The protected turning movements provide a high comfort transition zone for bicyclist and pedestrians. The accessible parking zone along 11th Av east of Gold Medal Park is the second treatment. It features two 22’ parking spaces with 8’ mid-space protected curb openings. Over a 3-month period both locations will be exposed to various winter weather events, and this evaluation will focus on design’s resilience throughout this period.
