Volunteer for Bike/Walk to Work Day

The 2007 Twin Cities Bike/Walk to Work Day is fast approaching! This year, it will take place on Friday, May 18th. This regional event encourages commuters to bike and walk to work. Two celebrations will be held from 6:30 am to 8:30 am, one in downtown Minneapolis and the other in downtown St. Paul.  The Minneapolis event will be held on the Hennepin County Government Center Plaza, and the St. Paul event will be held in Rice Park. Upon arrival participants are greeted by a band, receive a free breakfast and promotional gifts, and are able to browse related goods and services at vendor booths.

You can help!  In order to help new bike and walk commuters learn a route to work, group bike rides and walks are being organized to each downtown.  Would you be willing to serve as a bike ride or walking leader? Responsibilities will include:

Approaching Downtown

Ride your bike!  So far in Minneapolis, potential bike rides are beginning in the Cedar Riverside, East Harriet, Hiawatha, Keewaydin, Lind – Bohanan, Longfellow, Northeast Park, Northrop, and Sheridan neighborhoods. To see where additional rides are departing, including rides in St. Paul and several suburbs, visit the website above.

Walk to work!  Potential walks are beginning in the CARAG, Cedar-Riverside, Elliot Park, Loring Park, Lowry Hill East, Marcy Holmes, Near North, Nicollet Island/East Bank, North Loop, Seward, Ventura Village, and Whittier neighborhoods.

Would you like to see your neighborhood added to the list of organized bike rides or walks?  If you would like to serve as a volunteer for a new ride or walk, please contact us. We are happy to add your locale to the list.  As soon as ride and walk leaders are finalized for each neighborhood, we will begin advertising this event to the public.

Organize a send-off celebration! Neighborhoods are encouraged to organize send-off celebrations.  If your neighborhood would like to encourage residents to bike or walk no matter where they work, please contact us to learn more about what you can do to organize your event.  We will help publicize your event on our website and in the media.
