Ways to Help the Animals
Minneapolis Animal Care & Control works with residents to create safe and healthy communities for people and animals. We know that our work is significantly positively impacted by caring and passionate people who want to lend a hand to animals in need.
According to the IRS, gifts to a local government entity are tax deductible if they are solely for public purposes. All donations to the Animal Shelter must be used in one of two ways -- for Animal Care (dog biscuits, cat treats or toys, etc.) or Responsible Pet Ownership (dog bite prevention education for children, etc.). Therefore, donations to Minneapolis Animal Care & Control may be tax deductible on your federal income taxes. Please ask your tax attorney or financial advisor for further clarification.
Ten-year-old Ainsleigh wanted to help the animals. Instead of accepting presents at her recent birthday party, she asked her guests, as well as friends and family to make financial donations at MACC. This week, Ainsleigh visited the animal shelter and dropped off $349 in donations. What an amazing and thoughtful gesture from such a young person. Our staff salutes Ainsleigh and her big heart! Thank you, Ainsleigh!
I'm in the Dog House Event - Fall 2013
The volunteers at MACC are raising money to build a new dog run next to the animal shelter. Currently, we have about 80 dog walker volunteers and only 1 outside exercise area for canines. We desperately need more room. Please consider making a donation to build the dog run. More information for businesses interested in supporting the event: Application
Special thanks to our title sponsor Chuck & Don's Pet Food Outlet for their generous support for our event!
A new initiative for 2013 is our Community Champions Program. Are you able to coordinate a group of people to collect needed items for the animals at the shelter? Maybe your work colleagues, a youth or scout troop, or a faith-based group might be interested in helping out. MACC is always eager to receive the following items for our dogs and cats:
- Dog & Cat Treats (unopened and not expired)
- Financial Donations
NOTE: Due to ongoing safety and health concerns, please DO NOT donate dog treats from China.
Volunteer Your Time
We encourage you to find ways to help the animals that meet your interests, time commitment and ability. While some folks are able to donate financially, others give of their time by volunteering.
