Black Business Week

To celebrate Black Business Week, the City of Minneapolis is hosting many events.

About this event

Join us to celebrate Black Business Week

The City of Minneapolis was excited to host its second annual Black Business Week. It took place from Monday, July 25 to Sunday, July 31. August is National Black Business Month. To start it off, we had a wide range of events and activities. Black Business Week returns us to our pre-pandemic goals of 2019.

We're committed to economic recovery

Besides giving visibility to Black businesses in Minneapolis, our goals are to:

  • Activate Cultural District small businesses. We'll do this to support economic recovery and development.
  • Broaden our efforts during Black Business Week and the nationally recognized Black Business Month.
  • Share the most up to date resources and information with:
    • Residents
    • Entrepreneurs
    • Aspiring entrepreneurs
    • Black business owners
  • Establish and grow Black Business Week within the City enterprise. This aligns with our inclusive economic recovery goal to build a Black middle class.

Briauna Williams, 2022 Creative Response Fund recipient

From healing through music and art-making to dreams of a community space and gallery, this entrepreneur has big business plans. Briauna Williams is a 2022 Creative Response Fund recipient.

In June 2022, the Office of Arts, Culture, and the Creative Economy (ACCE) announced funding through the Creative Response Fund. It will fund 12 artist-led teams for projects that give creative healing and support to Minneapolis communities. Particularly, communities still affected by the stress and trauma of 2020.

One of these projects is HeART and Music. Artists Briauna Williams and Khalif Alogba will lead this project. They'll present free community collaborative workshops of healing through music and art making.

Briauna William’s creative HeART and Music workshops focus on healing for youth and adults through:

  • Storytelling
  • Fellowship
  • Creativity in her North Minneapolis neighborhood.
