Minneapolis Police responded to the area of Elliot Avenue and Franklin Avenue on a report of the sound of shots fired at 1:21 a.m. on Monday morning. Subsequent callers reported hearing a woman screaming.
Officers arrived and located an adult female south of the intersection. She was in critical condition but did not appear to have been shot. We are awaiting confirmation from the medical professionals at the hospital on the extent and cause of injuries. An adult male was located to the west of the intersection on the sidewalk deceased. It appears he had been shot. The female was transported to the hospital by ambulance.
Preliminary investigation indicates that possibly two vehicles were westbound on Franklin Avenue when one of the vehicles struck the adult female east of Elliot Avenue. The vehicles continued west of Elliot and one did a U-turn in the middle of the road and shot the male victim. The suspect vehicle then fled south on Elliot and out of the area.
Personnel from the Minneapolis Police Department Crime Lab responded to document the scene and collect evidence. Homicide detectives responded to the scene and began their investigation.
The Medical Examiner will release the identity of the victim, along with the nature and cause of death in the days to come.
