  • August 7, 2019 – Northeast Solar Initiative – Minneapolis Climate Action Executive Director Kyle Samejima and Board Member Jeff Stites presented on the community solar project being launched at Ward One’s Second Chance Recycling facility and the potential for Ward One community members and organizations to partner on recruiting Eastside subscribers.
  • June 12, 2019 – NE Stormwater InitiativeStephanie Johnson (Mississippi Watershed Management Organization), Carrie Christensen (Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board), and Kelly Moriarity (City of Minneapolis Surface Water & Sewers) presented the upcoming stormwater management initiative that’s launching in Columbia Park Golf Course and upper Northeast to mitigate flooding and improve environmental health.
  • April 3,2019 – GO Mpls – Public Works Director of Transportation Planning & Programming Jeni Hager presented the City’s Transportation Action Plan, including timeline for creation and adoption and opportunities for public input. Vision Zero Program Coordinator Ethan Fawley presented about the City’s Vision Zero Initiative and opportunities for public input.
  • March 27, 2019 - 2000 Watt Society/City Sustainability Goals – Stephan Tanner presented the 2000 Watt Society’s Minneapolis Carbon Framework Plan, which creates the foundation for a meaningful, sustainable and verifiable local carbon action plan.


  • August 22, 2018 – Financing Community Solar – Minneapolis Chief Financial Officer Mark Ruff provided an overview of City of Minneapolis energy use and the potential for a community solar project at the new Eastside Storage and Maintenance Facility in the Holland neighborhood of Ward 1.
  • June 14, 2018 – Minneapolis 2040 Comprehensive Plan – Minneapolis Long Range Planning Director Heather Worthington presented the draft Minneapolis 2040 Comprehensive Plan, with audience Q&A.
  • June 12, 2018 – Arts District Forum – follow up to October 2017 discussion of local government support of arts and arts-related businesses, hosted by Northeast Minneapolis Arts District.
  • February 22, 2018 – Cooperatives Forum – panel discussion around creating a cooperative economy and establishing Minneapolis’ first black-owned cooperative bank, hosted by the Association for Black Economic Power, panelists included CM Reich, CM Ellison, and representatives from ABEP.


  • October 16, 2017 – Arts District Forum – discussion about how local government supports artists, and helps to develop the arts and arts related businesses in Wards 1 and 3. Hosted by Northeast Minneapolis Arts District.

  • July 13, 2016 – Velodrome Proposal Update – Presentation of design renderings by MN Cycling Center for velodrome proposal. Meeting co-hosted by Columbia Park Neighborhood Association and Shoreham Area Advisory Committee.
  • June 9, 2016 – Car-Free/Car-Light Living – Exploration of transit options beyond single occupancy vehicles, with panelists Gene Tierney (CarFreeLife Founder), Kyle Burrows (Metro Transit Transportation Planner), Chris Duffrin (CEE President), and Bill Dossett (Nice Ride Executive Director).
  • May 9, 2016 – Streets & Parks Funding Plan Town Hall – CM Reich and Parks Commissioner Liz Wielinski presented the joint City/Park Board Streets and Parks funding plan.
  • May 5, 2016 – Neighborhood Night at the Water Bar – CM Reich co-sponsored a neighborhood outreach event at Water Bar, a collaborative public art project that raises awareness of water-related issues through interaction between artists and community.
  • February 17, 2016 – Zero Waste – Discussion of recycling as an economic development tool, with panelists Lynn Hoffman (Eureka Recycling), Jennifer Schmitt (Northstar Initiative), Amy Fields (Eastside Co-op), Janet Ludden (Momentum, Inc.), Scott Louder (Second Chance Recycling), and Thomas Adams (Better Futures, Inc.).


  • October 3, 2015 – Northeast Minneapolis Resource Fair – Joint Ward One/Ward Three-sponsored event featuring City departments and social service organizations.
  • June 18, 2015 – Eastside Rail Safety Forum – discussion of rail safety in an urban setting, Federal pre-emption rules, and rail incident protocols. Guest panelists include Rep. Ellison, Sen. Dziedzic, Rep. Hornstein, Fire Chief Fruetel, and representatives from Canadian Pacific and BNSF Railroad.
  • April 13, 2015 – Grocery Cooperative Forum – panel discussion of the role of cooperative grocers within the larger regional grocery market, moderated by Kevin Edberg (Cooperative Development Services Executive Director). Panelists include Sean Doyle (Seward Co-op), Amy Fields (Eastside Food Co-op), Josh Resnik (Wedge Cooperative Grocery), Luke Schell (Linden Hills Co-op), and Jenny Warner (Wirth Cooperative Grocer).

  • June 23, 2014 – The Role of Cooperatives in Central Avenue Revitalization – overview of the work of local cooperatives, including Eastside Food Co-op and Northeast Investment Co-op (NEIC). Special guests include representatives from Fair State Cooperative Brewing, Recovery Bike and Aki’s Bakery.
  • April 30, 2014 – Open Data – discussion about access to public data, with guest speakers Otto Doll (Minneapolis CIO) and Mary Treacy (Open The Government consultant).
  • January 23, 2014 – SE Como TCE Contamination – representatives from Minnesota Pollution Control Agency, Minnesota Dept. of Health, Barr Engineering and General Mills to answer questions regarding harmful vapor intrusion into SE Como homes due to a defunct General Mills facility.


  • October 8, 2013 – Shoreham Yards Development Proposal – guest speaker Jason Lardy presented MN Cycling Center’s concept for a velodrome, BMX biking course, and youth development program at the site of the Shoreham Roundhouse.
  • August 28, 2013 – Regulatory Services – overview of the department’s mission, goals and processes with guest speaker Director Nuria Rivera-Vandermyde.

  • October 17, 2012 – The State of Urban Agriculture & the Local Foods Movement – group discussion with guest presenters Jane Shey (Homegrown Minneapolis coordinator), Mother Earth Gardens NE, Northeast Farmers’ Market, California Street Farm and Buchanan Street Farm.
