Renewable Energy for Municipal Operations
Totals do not include two small solar thermal installations.
In municipal operations, increase renewable electricity to one megawatt by 2014.
In 2012, Federal stimulus funds were used to install 101 kilowatts (kW) of solar power on the City's Royalston Maintenance Facility, 40 kW of solar power on the Currie Maintenance Facility, 40 kW of solar on the Jerry Haaf Memorial Parking Ramp, and 13 kW of solar power on Fire Station #14. The City also purchases a small amount of Minnesota wind-generated electricity through Xcel Energy’s Windsource program. In 2012, the City used its own solar photovoltaic (PV) systems and Windsource purchases for 1.1 percent of its total electricity use.
